JOCK ELLIOT RETIRES FROM THE ROYAL FALKLAND ISLANDS POLICE

By J. Brock (with more than a little help from Jock)

A former Infantry Warrant Officer whose uniformed service began on 10 April 1965, Jock Elliot joined the Royal Falkland Islands Police Force from the UK on 21 September 1993

He completed his own Police Probationer Training on 26th November 1993 and at the age of 43, proving the old codgers can still do it! He had to train alongside officers over 20 years his junior.

On 30th August 1993, he was promoted and took over as B Shift Commander until he officially became the first Criminal Records & Intelligence Officer working within the Force. As part of his job over the years he has worked closely with military and overseas agencies; this job he took over on 30 July 1995.

In 1999, at the gentle age of 51 he came top student on the Sergeant's Promotion Exam and was promoted once more; taking over roles as both Operations Sergeant and Sergeant Support & Training. His final role in the Police was as the Force Trainer where he has turned out trained recruits and potential Sergeant's alike.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day on the eleventh month of 1988, Jock, a former 'Argyll' from Mad Mitch's Regiment, was discharged by the Royal Marines, his affiliated Corps, at Seighton Barracks in Plymouth following a service in the Armed Forces of 23.5 years.

In keeping with his strong military background, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month 2003, Jock once more, was in the position for the second time in his life, when he took his final steps out of Stanley Police Station to an Honour Guard provided by the Chief Officer Dave Morris and Inspector Len McGill and officers with drawn batons forming a line-up. This, just after the two minutes silence observed by the Victory Green Guns...

Jock would not have wanted it any other way!

Colleagues presented Jock with this life-size portrait of himself.
