Falklands : Visit By CPA UK Branch Members to the Falklands

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Branch Members will visit theFalklands in February.

VISIT BY CPA UK BRANCH MEMBERS TO THE FALKLANDS


12-20 FEBRUARY 2008

(Ascension Island)


A visit by Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK Branch Members will take place between 12 and 20 February 2008.  Before coming to the Falklands the Members will have the opportunity to tour Ascension Island where they will be met by the Administrator Mr. Michael Hill.  Besides a tour the Members will meet the Base Commander, members of the Island’s Advisory Council and other Government officials.

The Hon Mr. Lewis Clifton will meet the Members at Mount Pleasant.  With him will be CBFSAI, Cllr Cockwell and Claudette Anderson MBE.  The Members will settle in to the Malvina House Hotel where dinner with a few Councillors will take place.


On Thursday, 14 February there will be a briefing and meeting session with Councillors at Gilbert House followed by lunch and a tour of the Education Department and the Falkland Islands Community School, the Infant/Junior School and Camp Education.  Later the Members will visit the Museum.


Friday, 15 February will be varied with a visit to the Agriculture and Mineral Resources Department in the morning and a lunch hosted by the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce.  A visit to the Falkland Islands Development Corporation will be followed by tea and dinner at Government House.


Camp visits will begin on Saturday, 16 February beginning with one to San Carlos to visit Blue Beach Cemetery and the home of Terrance and Sheila McPhee.  Ken Greenland will take the Members overland to Darwin where they will visit the Argentine Cemetery.  Members will then fly to Sea Lion Island to visit the Sheffield Memorial and have dinner and an overnight.  In the afternoon the Members will fly back to Stanley where they will have dinner with individual hosts.


On Monday, 18 February the Members will have a day with the Military at MPA and return to Stanley for a press conference and dinner with Councillors in the Malvina House Hotel.  Before leaving on Tuesday,  Members will visit the KEMH.
