Ascension : Governor Gurr to Make First Official Visit to Ascension

Governor Gurr will make his first official visit to Ascension Island this month. The Governor will be accompanied by Mrs Gurr, and is due to depart St Helena on 10 January 2008.

Governor Gurr to Make First Official Visit to Ascension


 


 


Governor Gurr will make his first official visit to Ascension Island this month. The Governor will be accompanied by Mrs Gurr, and is due to depart St Helena on 10 January 2008.


 


While on Ascension Island, Governor Gurr will be staying with the Administrator, Michael Hill and will have a full programme of meetings to include:


 


The Ascension Island Advisory Group


The RAF Base Commander


The USAF Base Commander


The heads of major organisations – Serco, VT Communications, Cable and Wireless, Ariane and others


The major private sector organisations, and


Senior AIG Managers



The Governor will also address a public meeting, and be present at a Reception as well as a dinner at the Residency. Mrs Gurr will join with the Governor on some of the visits but will also have her own programme of activities which could well include visiting the school, the hospital and heritage and conservation organisations.


 


Amanda Ross McDowell of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will be joining the Governor during Wednesday and Thursday.


 


Mr Gurr is looking forward to meeting many Saints (78.1 per cent of the population of Ascension), as well as trying to move the democratic process forward.


 


Governor and Mrs Gurr are booked to return to St Helena on 22 January.
