BRIAN HARPER
By J. Brock (FINN)
It was with sadness that I heard about the death of Brian Harper on 28 November 2007. I had known him since 1986 when I worked for Kelvin Catering on the Fairclough-Miller Joint Venture while building the KEMH. Brian had moved from MPA to Stanley at the start of the project and set up the galley in what is now St. Mary’s Paddock. Previously he had worked for Kelvin Catering at the LMW project building MPA Complex.
Brian managed the galley until he was hired as Cheff/Manager at the Malvina House Hotel where he quickly became an icon of sorts with his ready quips and abundant humour he always had a good word for everyone. He was a good friend and often the discussion reverted to photography. Brian created several well known videos not only of Stanley but also a tourism video and mementos from Camp as well.
After suffering his first heart attack in 1995, Brian moved to the UK where he took on the “Badger Inn.”
Until now, I hadn’t heard of Brian, but I am sure that if heaven has a hotel, Brian will be behind the bar making sure everyone is happy. Brian did not want a formal funeral but hopefully we can remember him over a few wee drams.
Donations in his name can be made to the British Heart Foundation.
