Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 20.10.2007 (Article Archived on 03.11.2007)

A full programme will keep visiting veterans and their families busy during the pilgrimage.

FALKLANDS BRANCH OF SAMA’82 HINT ABOUT WHAT’S ON THE PROGRAMME

By J. Brock (FINN)

On Monday night’s phone-in on FIRS Lewis Clifton, Gary Clement, Jock Elliot and Jimmy Moffatt read out some items that are going to be on the programme for the November pilgrimage.  Two hundred and fifty veterans and/or family members are expected.  These programme events  include:  a limited number of seats on HMS Clyde to go where HMS Glamorgan was attacked by Exorcet Missiles, a limited amount of places on a Sea Lion Island Trip from British International.  H. E. the Governor Mr. Alan Huckle is hosting three different receptions for veterans.

West Falkland and outlaying islands are also being included in the programme.  Hill Cove, Fox Bay and Port Howard will be hosting veterans.  An at sea service over the Antelope and the Ardent will be conducted during this time.

What is described as a “Round Robin” will take place with vehicles taking veterans around East Falkland.  The venue includes San Carlos for a service at Blue Beach Cemetery.  Also there is a battlefield tour, harbour tours and wildlife tours.  The British Legion will host a dance and VT Communications will host a reception.  There will be a short service at the 1982 Memorial.  Benches will be presented by the Veterans as well.

Remembrance Sunday will feature a service at Christ Church Cathedral and a ceremony and brief service at the Cross of Sacrifice.  In the evening the Royal Engineers will hold a sunset ceremony.

A full programme will be published in Penguin News in due course.
