AIR ACCESS PROJECT UPDATE

Work continues behind the scenes to secure the delivery of air access for St Helena.  In two months time, on the 30th November 2007, we expect to receive bids from two of the pre-qualified Contractors, Basil Read and Impregilo for the design, build and operation of the airport.

You might remember that we have also spoken previously about setting up a Project Management Unit on St Helena at the start of the airport project.  The Project Management Unit will be responsible for on the ground management of the access component of the project, reporting to DFID and working with the St Helena Access Project Team to ensure timely completion of the project and links with wider development.

We are currently evaluating a proposal (tender) submitted by Halcrow Group Limited, in response to our advert for the Project Management Unit, and depending on the outcome of this evaluation expect to enter into a contract before we receive the DBO bids..

This is to allow the Project Management Unit to participate in both the evaluation of the airport DBO bids and subsequent negotiations to find the most suitable contractor.

Sharon Wainwright, St Helena Access Project Manager
