FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE MEASURES FOR THE FALKLANDS
By J. Brock (FINN)
Thanks to the efforts of former Senior Veterinary Officer Steve Pointing the Falklands are no longer classed with the UK when it comes to Foot and Mouth disease. Nonetheless, measures must be taken to prevent the disease from spreading to the Islands by air travellers from the UK and South America.
From today all in-bound passengers will be going through “Jimmy’s Hanger” and going through a foot bath. They will also have to unpack their bags and clean any other shoes they have in their possession. According to the present Senior Veterinary Officer, Vic Epstein, meat and milk products must be declared as well.
Extra customs and military staff will be laid on so that things will move smoothly. These measures are, at present, for incoming passengers only.
