The annual Farmers’ Week Variety Show took place in Stanley Town Hall from 1930hrs on Tuesday, 10 July 2007. The programme began with a joint Infant/Junior School Choir singing the mini cantata, “Jonah Jazz.” Jason “Never Again” Lewis, the Director and MC, along with Gary Tyrell (Jacques Cluseau) David Hewitt, Clovis Kilmartin, Jordan Philips and Pia Schuchert helped to undo the mystery surrounding the Pink Panther’s Diamond.
The Falklands Medley Folk Group performed on trumpet, flute, violin, recorder piano guitar and electric xylophone. “Volunteer Beach,” “Crags of Tumbledown,” and “Alone with my Thoughts” were performed by the group with James Barrett playing the Violin Solo written for Marine McPherson of 45 Commando.
The FICS Choir sang next with a very distraught “Miss Piggy” and a three-legged “Jake” commenting on the performance.
News Team Corina Bishop and Fraser Wallace helped to spark things up with commentary about the health system, FIGAS, the Royal Falkland Islands Police and Tim Miller. This was followed by a movie quiz with a series of screams as clues.
Ending act one were “The Moffetiers” a hastily organised band featuring Kelly Moffett (vocals) Sam Elliot (Guitar) and Tim Cotter (Base Guitar).
Act two consisted of a skit called “Black Velvet by Stanley House, A selection of country tunes by Dae Peck, A trumpet duet by Laura Minto and Sonia Arkhipkina and a musin medley with Karen Monto (piano), Aslin Barroclough (flute) and Zoe Whitney, Kaylee Smith, Joanne Butler (Vocals) and Vicky Collier (Flute) were excellent entertainment and well executed.
A skit by Nick Barrett and Geoff Pring called “FIODA Presents” preceded music by the popular Goss Girls. The evening ended with “The Pigs Untroughed.”
FIODA would like to thank all those who worked tirelessly to make the show such an overwhelming success. These people include the Director, Jason Lewis, Producer, Lidda Luxton, Musical Director, Shirley Adams-Leach, Sound and light-man, Martin Cant, as well as Lyn, Deborah and Lidda, who did props and stage, Alison, Graham, Helen, Julia, Leeann and John who did the front of the house. Extra seating was donated by St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Photos of the variety show will be placed on the http://www.falklandnews.com website in due course.
