St Helena : Governor Clancy Departs St. Helena

Final arrangements for Governor Clancy to embark on the American Prepositioning ship, MV 2nd Ltd John P Bobo are being made today. Governor Clancy is very grateful to the US Prepositioning Squadron for their kind consideration of transporting him to Ascension which they now need to visit for other reasons.

DEPARTURE OF GOVERNOR CLANCY

Final arrangements for Governor Clancy to embark on the American Prepositioning ship, MV 2^nd Ltd John P Bobo are being made today.  Governor Clancy is very grateful to the US Prepositioning Squadron for their kind consideration of transporting him to Ascension which they now need to visit for other reasons.

This should enable the Governor to connect with the Thursday flight to the UK and to attend the Governor’s Conference in London on 15 and 16 May.  This attendance had previously been unlikely because of the revisions in the RMS Schedule.

In London the Governor will also attend and speak at the Reception on St Helena Day, 21 May to mark the 100^th voyage of the RMS St Helena.  On this occasion he will also present the St Helena Badge of Honour to recipients who now live in the UK.

The Governor will also have meetings with FCO and DFID.  He hopes to be able to arrange a public meeting on Ascension to discuss developments there when he transits Ascension at the end of  May.  He hopes that the public would take that opportunity to give views on the steps needed to re-introduce democratic arrangements on Ascension. 

Before leaving tomorrow Governor Clancy will host a small dinner party for Captain Martin Smith to mark his long association with St Helena and her dependencies.  Captain Smith retires shortly from service on the RMS St Helena.
