Falklands : Falkland Wool Growers Report for Week Ending 02/02/07

WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 2nd February 2007


 


 


Auctions


 


“To all-round relief the Australian market stood the test of a bumper offering of 81,448 bales, showing a modest gain of 0.5% and an admirable clearance of 91%.” WRWMR


 


The Australian Eastern Market Indicator gained three cents on Tuesday and four cents on Wednesday before drifting two cents on Thursday.  The EMI therefore added five cents on the week to close at 931 A cents.  In sterling terms, 22 to 24 microns and 28 microns gained slightly whilst other categories tended easier.  About 61,540 bales are currently rostered for sale in Australia next week.


 


The New Zealand, the Merino Indicator wasn’t quoted, the Mid Micron Indicator gained 10 cents to 628 NZ cents, the Fine Crossbred Indicator added six cents to 351 NZ cents whilst the Strong Crossbred Indicator was unchanged at 328 NZ cents.  The Lambs Indicator was up four cents at 372 NZ cents. 


 


The South African Cape Wools Overall Merino Indicator drifted 1.1 percent this week, moving from 3,835 to 3,793 SA cents/kg clean.


 


 


Currencies


The Australian dollar was trading a cent weaker at A$2.53£ whilst the New Zealand dollar was four cents weaker at NZ$2.86 /£.

SAAS voyage 2 wool is tested.  SAAS voyage 3 is docking Tilbury.  FIC voyage 4 arrives Southampton next week.  Some good speciality sales were achieved.
