"Many of you know that in the FCO we move around on a regular basis.  Sadly my time in OTD is about to come to an end.   I joined OTD in February 2004 and it was clear from day one that I would enjoy the work. I was fortunate to see St Helena in person when I visited in 2004.  Since then I have had the pleasure of meeting many representatives from St Helena as they come to or through London for meetings, conferences and training. Now, almost 3 years on, I am coming to the end of my time in the department.  A board will sit at the end of January, when my successor will be named.  We will try to make sure that he or she visits the island at an early opportunity.  I will leave the department sometime in March and before moving on to another job will take some leave and catch up with training courses I haven't had time to do.

It has been a very busy job with the airport announcement, constitutional developments, elections and the murder trial all adding to the FCO / SHG dimension. What has also made it rewarding is that it has truly been great fun working on the issues affecting St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. I feel that by working in partnership we have made real progress which gives me tremendous job satisfaction.  I can hardly believe the variety of issues we have tackled together over the last three years.

I hope that we all have a bright and prosperous future.  I'd like to thank every one I have had contact with on St Helena, Ascension and Tristan over the last three years for their patience, understanding and good humour. It has been a pleasure working alongside you all and I take so many very fond memories with me.

  With best wishes, Karen."
