St Helena : St. Helena - 2007 Rrgister of Electors
Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Juanita Brock) 07.01.2007 (Article Archived on 21.01.2007)

The Register of Electors for 2007 will soon be under preparation. Executive Council has advised that the 2007 Register should be updated to form the basis of the 2007 Register. In other words, if your name was included in the 2006 Register, it will automatically be included in the 2007 Register.

2007 REGISTER OF ELECTORS

The Register of Electors for 2007 will soon be under preparation.  Executive Council has advised that the 2007 Register should be updated to form the basis of the 2007 Register.  In other words, if your name was included in the 2006 Register, it will automatically be included in the 2007 Register.

However, if any of your personal circumstances have changed, for example, if you have changed your name, or address, you will need to complete a form to enable the Registration Officer to make the necessary amendments to the Register.

Also, if you have attained the age of 18 since the 2006 Register was compiled, you should take the opportunity to have you name included in the Register so that you will be able to vote in the event of a By-Election or even a General Election.

A new feature included in the 2006 Register was the opportunity for an elector to vote in a different Polling District from that in which he resides, as long as it is within the same Constituency.  For example, a person who lives in Longwood might find it more convenient to cast his vote in the Jamestown Polling District – the new Register for 2007 will follow the same format, by listing the individual’s name and address in the Electoral Area in which he resides, but at the same time indicating the Polling District at which he wishes to vote.  However, it must be stressed that this will only be allowed within each of the Constituencies – an elector who resides and is registered in the East Electoral Areas will not be able to cast a vote at a Polling Station in the West Electoral Area.

More information about where Registration Forms can be obtained will be made available within the next few days.
