This week, at the yard of German star rider Uwe Schwanz in Holzkirchen in the heart of Bavaria, Ascension Island was the main topic of conversation at the coffee table?

“Does anyone know where this is?” “I think it is somewhere in the middle of the ocean.” “How many people live there?” “Do they have horses?” – these and similar questions, and the occasional more or less informed answer, could be heard flying back and forth across the coffee table in bits of conversation at the yard of the Bavaria based rider, who is one of Germany’s most versatile top level riders as well as being a coveted international trainer. Schwanz was ranked 4th in Germany and 29th in the world in dressage before turning to show-jumping in 2002, where he went on to win several puissance shows. He then went on to become two times national champion in three-day Eventing of pro riders, as well as becoming an international team trainer for dressage. He is one of the only riders in Germany to hold the German riding gold medal in both dressage and jumping and is considered one of the nation’s foremost trainers for bringing on young horses to top level.

The reason for the great interest in Ascension Island’s, which continues to be one of the main topics of conversation at the yard, was the recent number of hits from readers based on the island to the widely read website news of Uwe Schwanz (www.uweschwanz.com).  The news are being regularly accessed from readers as far away as Thailand and Saudi Arabia, but this is the first time that Schwanz and his team were able to welcome Ascension Island to their international readership.

“We are really pleased that several people in the middle of the ocean, on the other end of the world, have decided to join our international readership,” Schwanz said yesterday afternoon. “Of course, since we had no previous contact with Ascension Island, we are very enthusiastic about finding out more of what I understand is a very beautiful location with plenty of wildlife and great scenery.”
