Falklands : Falkland Wool Growers Report for Week Ending 01/12/06
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 02.12.2006 (Article Archived on 16.12.2006)

Robert Hall updates us on what the wool market did last week.

WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 1st December 2006

Auctions

Australia, the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) made little change from last week. On Tuesday the EMI drifted four cents, it gained a cent on Wednesday and recovered two more cents on Thursday.  The EMI thus closed the week a cent lower at 825 A cents. 87% of the wool was sold.  “Some 93% of New South Wales is now drought declared.”

New Zealand, neither the Merino nor Lamb Indicators were quoted.  The Mid-Micron Indicator was down 19 at 627 NZ cents; the Fine Crossbred was down six at 353 NZ cents whilst the Coarse Crossbred was down two cents at 342 NZ cents.  The stronger local dollar “was one contributing factor while quota issues in China accounted for the reduced competition on these types”.  WRWMR

South Africa, the Cape Wools Overall Merino Indicator started at 3,336 SA cents per kg clean and closed up 0.6 percent at 3,355 SA cents.  There was a 96% clearance of the offering of 8,247 bales.

Currencies

Towards the end of the week, the Australian dollar was trading at A$2.48/£ whilst the New Zealand dollar was at NZ$2.87 /£.
