FALKLANDS: NO INJURIES IN ISLANDER CRASH

By J. Brock (FINN)

A Britain Norman Islander aircraft has suffered extensive damage whilst landing at West Point Island in the Falklands.  According to a government press release, neither the pilot, Tom Chater, nor the two passengers, Rod and Lillie Napier were hurt during the incident.

The incident took place at 1055hrs on Sunday, 19 November 2006 on the island’s grass landing strip.  Representatives from the civil Aviation Department and the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS) have just completed a visit to the scene of the accident.

At present, there are no further details as the accident is still under investigation.  It is also not known what impact the loss of an airframe will have to the Air service during the tourist season.

In the meantime, the co-operation and understanding of all customers throughout this difficult period would be greatly appreciated,” Chief Executive Chris Simpkins said.
