This year’s Falkland Islands Craft Fair produced an outstanding number of entrants that surpassed by approximately 150 the number of exhibits that were presented for competition and display last year. The FICS Street was transformed into an exquisite setting with wall hangings, rugs, leather-work and horn-work, as well as knitted garments on display boards. Walls were also lined with photographs and other art forms.

Her Honour the Acting Governor Ms. Harriet Hall handed out the prizes. In her closing remarks she said that when she was in the Falklands 8 years ago, she helped to judge in the Craft Fair and she recognised that it was a difficult job. Ms. Hall also noted the amazing standard of the work and added that in the UK the crafts tended to be made professionally and were very expensive The Local people need to be praised for the standard of work they produced. Crafts made by local people deserved her admiration.

Craft Fair Organiser, Barbara Curtis, and her helpers, Carol Cant and Natalie Smith then conducted the raffle for items like luggage, bottles of wine and whiskey and a doll wearing a crocheted bridal gown.
