CABLE & WIRELESS TO ESTABLISH NEW FALKLANDS-BASED COMPANY FOR SOUTH ATLANTIC
Cable & Wireless International (CWI) announced today the establishment of a new subsidiary company for the South Atlantic islands of Ascension, St Helena and the Falkland Islands. The new company, Cable and Wireless (South Atlantic) Ltd is scheduled to come into being on 1 December 2006, and reflects CWI’s commitment to being the leading partner to the local communities it serves.
Richard Dodd, CWI Director for Monaco and Islands, said the move would align the South Atlantic businesses with the Cable & Wireless International strategy.
“The change will strengthen our ability to offer modern and sustainable telecoms services”, said Mr Dodd. “It will reinforce our position in each of the three territories so that we can plan the sustainable development of the new business alongside our stakeholders.
“What we are doing is giving ourselves the flexibility to take advantage of future developments, whether they are technical or regulatory.”
The new holding company will be established in the Falkland Islands. “The fact that we chose to incorporate our new company in the Falklands rather than some other jurisdiction outside the South Atlantic just confirms our commitment to these markets,” Mr Dodd added.
The three business units will in future be run as a single company with increased autonomy and local decision-making power. They will be more able to share skills and experience, as well as develop new processes to meet customer expectations and provide an enhanced customer experience.
As CWI implements these changes there will be no disruption to the service provided to customers: telecoms on the islands will work on a ‘business as usual’ basis. Cable & Wireless management are discussing with staff the new structure and the implications of realigning resources across the new South Atlantic business.
