Busy Times for the UK Representative

UK Representative, Kedell Worboys, has been attending a number of conferences and meeting on St Helena’s behalf. This has included conferences in Jersey and Greenland, and meetings with representatives from other Overseas Territories. Additionally she continues to work on shipping matters and she is currently preparing for the World Travel Market.

Preparing for World Travel Market 2006

The World Travel Market takes place on an annual basis and it has been several years since St Helena last had a stand there. Kedell felt the time was right to be at the World Travel Market this year as it provides opportunity to market St Helena as a tourist destination. She has been preparing for this event in consultation with Alistair McLean, the St Helena Line Passenger Marketing Executive so as to ensure that St Helena is promoted in the best possible way.

The event takes place in London and brings people from the travel industry together. The World Travel Market is well attended with a record breaking 48,211 travel industry professionals attending last year. The event will be taking place from 6 to 9 November and the press will be in attendance. Kedell said: “One of the key benefits will be opportunity to network with people from the Travel Trade. We want to make them aware of St Helena as a tourist destination.”

Shipping

As a Director of St Helena Line Kedell dedicates a lot of time to matters concerning the RMS St Helena. Much of her attention is focused on marketing the Ship and in this respect, she has been meeting with Alistair McLean to discuss matters such as redesigning the RMS St Helena website. She recently hosted a reception in Portland, which attracted interest from a number of the journalists who were invited.

Attending Overseas Conferences

Kedell travelled to Greenland in September to attend the European Union Overseas Countries and Territories Forum along with Dr Corinda Essex, Chief Development Officer. More recently, she travelled to Jersey to attend the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum. This took place from 7 to 12 October and focused on conversation in the UK Overseas Territories and other small island communities. The conference attracted representatives from all of the Overseas Territories and focused on topics such as environmental education and species conservation.

Meetings of the UK Overseas Countries and Territories

St Helena is a member of the UK Overseas Territories Association and Kedell attends UKOTA meetings on St Helena’s behalf. The member Territories are represented by their UK Representatives and the meetings provide opportunity to discuss matters that are of common interest to all.

Personnel Matters

Outside of meetings and conferences Kedell continued to deal with a number of personnel matters and this included organising training for SHG Officers and meeting with persons who are in the UK on training and also with their training providers. She has also been sitting on interviewing panels for St Helena vacancies.

The rest of the year is set to be busy for the UK Representative with other meetings already planned.
