Falklands : Falklands Prepare for MPs Visit

Two MPs will be visiting the Falklands from 3 to 9 November.

FALKLANDS PREPARE FOR MPs VISIT

A visit by two MPs: Sarah McCarthy-Fry (Labour) and Mike Penning (Conservative) and the FIG’s representative Sukey Cameron will take place from 3 to 9 November 2006.


 


Their first day will feature Dinner with Councillors Summers and Mrs Summers and Robertson and Mr Pompert.  A Camp visit follows on Saturday with a wreath laying ceremony at San Carlos, with tea taken with residents followed by a visit to Hill Cove and a tour of the area hosted by Cllr Ian Hansen.  Later in the day there will be a flight to Pebble Island where Alan Whiee and Jackie Jennings will meet them for the Lodge check-in.  They will have dinner with Raymond Evans and Ariana Berntsen.  On Sunday after breakfast the MPs will have a tour of the Island followed by lunch and a flight back to Stanley.  Tony Smith of Discovery Tours will take the MPs on a battlefield tour with H. E. the Governor and Mrs Huckle.   Sunday night Dinners will be with local hosts.


 


After breakfast on Monday the NPs will proceed to the Chamber of Commerce where they will have an FIG briefing.  This will be followed by a visit to the Fisheries Department.  After a presentation by the private sector a buffet lunch will be served at the Chamber of Commerce.  This will be followed by a briefing on the Department of Agriculture and Minerals.  An office call on H. E. the Governor Mr Huckle will be followed by dinner hosted by Governor Huckle and Mrs Huckle.


 


Tuesday’s programme will be hosted by the Military at Mount Pleasant Complex.  After returning to Stanley, there will be drinks at the Malvina House Hotel with Heads of Department followed by dinner with selected Islanders at the Brasserie.


 


On Wednesday free time will be followed by a late morning visit to the Stanley Museum and a tour of the Department of Education’s schools with the Director of Education.  They will meet the Head of the Infant/Junior School, Camp Education and the Community School.  After a press conference at the Malvina House Hotel there will be an extensive meeting with Councillors at Gilbert House followed by dinner hosted by Councillors.


 


The MPs will depart the Falklands on Thursday, 09 November.
