MINERAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE MEETING (21/09/06)

By J. Brock (FINN)

A meeting of the Mineral Resources Committee took place in the Mineral Resources Department at 1530hrs on Thursday, 21 September 2006.  Present were Cllr Clausen (Chair), Cllr Hansen (Standing in for Cllr Cockwell), Mr. David Lang QC, Mrs. Phylis Rendell (Director of Mineral Resources) Ms. Glynis King (Minutes)

After Declaration of Interest, confirmation of the minutes of the meeting held on 16 May 2006 was signed.

There were no matters arising, so Mrs Rendell gave her run-down of activity since the last meeting.  Activities by the Hydrocarbons industry are covered in the Hydrocarbons Daily Record bur Mrs. Rendell also updated the meeting about Onshore Mineral Exploration.  She said that good weather meant good progress in drilling core samples and that eleven of the twenty drill targets have been tested, resulting in the addition of some more drilling targets.  Processing and storage of core samples takes place at Goose Green and FGML are at present employing 15 people.  She went on to say that there will be more ground and electro-magnetic work when the ground dries up, allowing better access.  FGML’s board plans to visit the Falklands in early November for a site visit in preparation for relinquishment of 50% of the acreage held by the company due in January 2007.

A brief discussion about the Department of Mineral Resources business plan update indicated that key performance indicators were working well.
