Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Juanita Brock) 14.09.2006 (Article Archived on 28.09.2006)

The Public Health and Social Services Department is pleased to announce that Dr John Sharpe has been engaged by Ni-Co to work in the department as Locum Surgeon.

The Public Health and Social Services Department is pleased to announce that Dr John Sharpe has been engaged by  Ni-Co to work in the department as Locum Surgeon.  Dr Sharpe will arrive at Ascension Island on Monday 18 September where the American Supply ship the MV TSGT John A Chapman is waiting to bring him to the island.

The St Helena Government is very grateful to the Captain of the MV TSGT John A Chapman for delaying departure from Ascension for St Helena to coincide with the arrival of Dr Sharpe's flight from Brize Norton, UK.  The Chief Administrative Health and Social Services Officer, Ivy Ellick has advised that this is being done done at no cost to the department or Ni-Co.

Many people will remember Dr Sharpe, as he was Chief Medical Officer/Surgeon from 1992 - 1995 and, his wife Colleen and their two children Catherine and Matthew.  Dr Sharpe  returned to the island in 1999 when he provided locum cover.  He is a familiar figure in the South Atlantic as he has also worked in this capacity on Ascension Island on a number of occasions.
