Scholar returns to Teach at Prince Andrew School

After four years of study, scholar Kerry Stevens has returned to St Helena having successfully completed a degree in Business with the North Hertfordshire College/Hertfordshire University. Kerry has also obtained a postgraduate certificate in Education with the University of Hertfordshire, which makes her a UK qualified teacher.

Work towards her postgraduate certificate included teaching in a UK school and her tutor said:  “Kerry demonstrated a very high level of professional values and practice. She also showed a high level of commitment, dedication and enthusiasm to her subject. In addition Kerry established excellent rapport with all her students.”

Her tutor concluded by telling the Education Department: “Kerry would be an excellent colleague. She is lively, intelligent and committed. We recommend her to you without reservation as a potentially excellent Business Studies teacher.”

The UK Co-ordinator described Kerry as “a determined and committed young lady who should be a positive asset to Prince Andrew School.”

Kerry returned to St Helena earlier this month and will start teaching when the new school year commences in September. She said “I enjoyed my experiences in the UK and feel that they have prepared me to take on the role of Business Studies teacher in Prince Andrew School.  I think that it is important for students to have access to Business and Enterprise education on St Helena.”

Kerry will be teaching GCSE Business Studies in the first year and will also eventually teach A Level Business Studies. As part of her timetable for September 2006 she will also be teaching Information Technology and Enrichment Studies.

Head Teacher, Derek Henry, said: “Kerry has done extremely well with her studies. She has been dedicated and her hard work has paid off. We are very proud of her achievements and we are looking forward very much to working with her as part of our team in Prince Andrew School”.
