ST HELENA LINE SIGNS NEW CONTRACT WITH ANDREW WEIR SHIPPING

St Helena Line Ltd signed a follow-on contract in London on 18 August 2006 with Andrew Weir Shipping Ltd for ship management and passenger marketing.

The new contract sees Andrew Weir Shipping reappointed as shipping agent for worldwide marketing and also onshore administration of the passenger service operated by RMS St Helena.

Both agreements under the contract run for a period of five years.

After the signing, Garry Hopcroft, the St Helena Line chairman, said that he was delighted to have reached this agreement after extensive changes to reflect the current market in which the RMS St Helena now operates.  “This new arrangement will, in my opinion, see us through towards the completion of St Helena’s new airport.  Andrew Weir Shipping’s reappointment will ensure the continuity of an invaluable service.  I am confident that they will run the ship as effectively as they have done for us in the past.”

Stephen Corkhill, managing director of Andrew Weir Shipping, also said how pleased he was to be renewing the contract, and had every confidence in the capability of his company to manage the vessel.  “I look forward”, he said, “to the continuing success of RMS St Helena and I also look forward to being increasingly involved in the construction of the airport and the continued welfare and well-being of the island.”

St Helena Line is wholly owned by the Government of St Helena    RMS St Helena is legally owned and registered in the name of The St Helena Line Ltd.  Beneficial ownership of the vessel rests with the St Helena Government.
