Mr. Alan Huckle, the next Falklands Governor, has visited the Islands for a week on a recognisance visit. He arrived on the Lan Flight on Saturday, 10 June 2006 and spent the week visiting Government Departments, and being given a briefing. He also went to Camp and visited families on West Falkland as well as visiting Darwin.
He said that it was important to him to see how Government House was managed and to meet with staff here as well as receiving advice from the present Governor, H. E. Mr Howard Pearce.
Mr. Huckle saw first hand the ceremonies surrounding Liberation Day and said that this was important because he will be Governor next year at the 25th anniversary of the Liberation. He also confirmed that he will be wearing a uniform at all ceremonies as, as he said, it was important for the observance to be properly conducted.
Prior to being posted to the Falklands, Mr. Huckle was the Governor of Anguilla. He visited the Falklands in 2001 when he was Head of the UK Overseas Territories Department.
