Ascension : MISS ASCENSION 2006

Miss Ascension 2006 was held at the Saints Club on Saturday 20th May. Fourteen contestants paraded the catwalk to a seated audience of 350 with many standing outside.

The contestants were; Debbie Stevens, Tara Lawrence, Lisa Roberts, Laura Oliver, Andrea Benjamin, Shelley Magellan, Lisa Lawrence, Corrinda Thomas, Kelly Leo, Mashay Yon, Kerry Benjamin, Natalie Greentree, Penelope Bennett and Casey Lawrence. 

The evening was transformed into a fashion show, ending with a collection of beautiful evening gowns.  Credit goes out to all the contestants who looked equally stunning on the night.  The compere; Mr Alan Nicholls did a splendid job in entertaining the crowd and putting the girls at ease.  The escorts for the evening were; Gary Benjamin and Gary Robinson, both of whom possessed charm and professionalism.  The Judges were; Mrs Sarah Bennett, Mrs Vera Gradinski, Mrs Nicola Kerslake, Mr Tony Misco and Mr Mark Dalton 

Out of the fourteen contestants, the following seven were short listed to go through to the next round; Mashay Yon, Natalie Greentree, Penelope Bennett, Casey Lawrence, Andrea Benjamin, Laura Oliver and Shelley Magellan.  Congratulations to Casey Lawrence who was crowned Miss Ascension 2006, 1^st Runner-Up was Penelope Bennett and 2^nd Runner-Up was Shelley Magellan. Miss Ascension 2006 was crowned by Mrs Tracey Yon who was 1^st Runner-Up in 1988. 

The Miss Ascension Committee:- Andrea Benjamin, Shelley Magellan, Carrie Augustus, Nola Henry, Alexi Leo and Susie-Gal Arms Lawrence, would like to thank the following people who helped made the evening a success:- Firstly to all the contestants, who without them there wouldn’t have been a show.  Despite a few nerves back stage - everyone deserves congratulating for what they have achieved. The sponsors; IDL, CSO, Two Boats Club, Saints Club, Mr & Mrs Lawson Henry, Mr & Mrs Michael Hill, Cranfield Family, Solomon’s Shop, Obsidian, Serco, Cable & Wireless and Birdies Refuelling Station.

Natalie Hewitt for the bouquets, Myrtle Magellan and Obsidian for the sashes.  Shelley Magellan for the design of tickets, Prudy Peters, Peggy Benjamin, Shirley Francis and Winnie Bagley for selling tickets on the night.  Saints Club for use of the Cinema and for all the support given whenever it was needed.  Two Boats Club, One Boat Club and Joyce Bennett for use of chairs.  AIG for materials for the stage.  Building & decorating the stage; David Lawrence, Errol Lawrence, Aaron Peters, Dutch Lawrence, Nicky Augustus, Susie-Gal Arms-Lawrence and Shaun George.

Smudge & Johnny Swain for music/smoke machine etc, Russell Yon, Mickey Yon for the loan of his microphones.  Gary Robinson and Gary Benjamin for escorting the girls; Alan Nicholls and Penny Peters for comparing and narrating.  All the Judges, Tracey Yon for crowning and presenting the prizes and Gary Robinson and crew for doing the video. Finally to the audience – a big thank you for supporting the girls on the night and to anyone who we might have forgotten to mention – THANK YOU!
