An exhibition called the Falklands and the Sea has been put on by the Stanley Museum in the Parish Hall from Thursday to Sunday this week.  The venue follows on from the Year of the Sea EX that was held last year in the Parish Hall.  According to Museum Curator, Leona Roberts the EX was successful and people wanted to see another one this year.

Displays of paintings, artefacts and written material were on display as well as philatelic items.  Model Boats expertly crafted were also on display.  Most popular were the photographs, especially those showing Falkland Islanders and their lives depicted on or around the sea, especially in their boats and other craft.  Few of the items that were displayed last year were at the Parish Hall this year.

According to Museum and National Trust member, Shirley Hirtle approximately 150 people came to see the items during the days they were on display.

Leona Roberts and her team are still scouring the Falklands for items that show our relationship to the sea,   The Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust as part of its “Oral History Project” is also interested in hearing  from anyone who has a story to tell about their family and the sea, so if you have anything, please give Leona a call on 27428.
