KOREAN AND SPANISH TRAWLERS COLLIDE IN HEAVY FOG
By J. Brock (FINN)
A collision between Korean and Spanish trawlers took place in Port William in the Falkland Islands at approximately 1545 on Thursday, 31 August 2003. Heavy fog in the area contributed to the accident which happened as the Korean Trawler was coming to Stanley for a fishing licence and as the Spanish Trawler was heading for the fishing ground.
Thus far, it is not thought that anyone was hurt during the incident. One of the vessels, LOITADOR, is alongside FIPASS and has a big gash around the bow by the anchor. It has been reported that the Korean Trawler was travelling too fast and that when it approached the LOITADOR, it turned the wrong way.
More information will be published as it becomes available.
