The annual May Ball, organised by the 1st Stanley Scouts, has taken place on the evening of Friday, 19 May 2006.  Miss Layla Crowie, daughter of Nicola and Bobby Crowie of Callaghan  Road has been crowned May Queen 2006.  May Princess 2006 was Jane Goss, Daughter of Ian and Sue Goss of Davis Street.  Prince Charming is Stefen Clark and runner up is Dion Robertson.

H. E. the Governor Mr. Pearce crowned the May Queen and Princess.  He congratulated the organisers of the May Ball, who were able to cater for 27 candidates for May Queen and 14 contestants for Prince Charming.  He quipped that the ladies outnumbered the men almost two to one.

It has taken Scout Leader, Mr. Phil Middleton and his helpers – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts - about a week to get the Town Hall ready for the event.  This year the theme is the Commonwealth Games and Islanders’ participation in other overseas events.  Thanks to Steve Dent a huge collection of pennants and photos that will be put in the refreshment room.

This year the food was provided by the Malvina House Hotel.  On Friday Stanley Arms will do the catering on Saturday evening.

The dress code will be formal on Friday night and no jeans will be allowed.  Smart casual dress will suffice for the second night.  Traditionally the ladies pay a huge amount of money for their first ball gowns.  Many gowns will be made locally but others have been imported from the UK, Europe and the US.

Three mystery judges will pick this year’s May Queen.  Doors opened this Friday at 2100hrs and judging began as soon as the ladies passed through the doors.  The May Queen 2006 was crowned by midnight on Friday.

There is one more night of dancing on Saturday.  Doors open at 2100hrs nad it will be £3.00 on the door.
