Two thirds of the responding businesses want to grow them.

BUSINESS CLIMATE SURVEY DISTRIBUTED TO PRIVATE SECTOR IN THE FALKLANDS

By J. Brock (FINN)

The Falkland Islands Business Climate Survey has been distributed to the private sector.  Carried out for the first time in 2003, the survey shows a significant number – approximately 2/3rds – of Falklands Companies answering the survey want to grow their businesses.

Seen as a particularly good exercise for FIDC, the survey indicates whether or not what the Development Corporation does is aligned with the needs and priorities of businesses.

The survey comes when Falklands businesses are facing challenges due to poor fishery results and budget cuts.  Regardless, the business community in the Falklands is resplendent with optimism possibly due to the emerging tourism and hydrocarbons industries and diversification of industry in Camp.

Companies also feel that fishing offshore will be more profitable in the future.  The current Illex season has substantiated those feelings.

People wanting a copy of the survey r more information can call Sue Gyford on 27211 or they can e-mail sgyford@fidc.co.fk.  Additionally they can write to her at Shackleton House, West Hillside, Stanley.
