FALKLANDS GIVE A PARADE FOR H. M. THE QUEEN’S 80TH

H. E. the Governor Mr. Pearce greets Cub Scouts at the Queen's Birthday Parade

A parade to mark the 80th birthday of H. M. the Queen occurred at 1030hrs on Friday, 21 April 2006 on Victory Green in Stanley, Falkland Islands. At 1020hrs members of the youth organisations: Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Sea and Marine Cadets as well as members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, a contingent from the royal Navy and from Mount Pleasant formed up and took their places.
After the arrival of Commodore Ian Moncrieff, Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce arrived and both men inspected the parade. When the men returned to the dais the Royal Standard was raised and Her Majesty got three cheers.
Unlike in previous years a contingent of Military riflemen gave the 21 Gun-Salute, while the Vickers Saluting guns on Victory Green remained silent.
The Military contingents and FIDF formed up and marched to the Jetty Centre to turn around while H. E. the Governor and CBSAI greeted the youth organisations.
From 78 Squadron a Sea King search and rescue helicopter flew past. A larger fly past was planned but low cloud and fog prevented it. Only the Sea King was authorised to fly in such conditions.
When the parade turned around they marched past H. E. the Governor Mr. Pearce and CBSAI Commodore Ian Moncrieff. The Red Taxi then took Mr. Pearce back to Government House.
At 1230hrs H. E. the Governor Mr. Pearce hosted a reception in honour of H. M. the Queen, where a loyal toast was held.
