Sergeant Dave Roberts of the Royal Falkland Islands Police updates us on the latest police activity.
At 2348hrs on Tuesday, 28 February 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for assistance for a person on James Street. When they arrived they could not find the person but later located him at the cemetery and he was given a lift home.
At 2046hrs on Wednesday, 01 March 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of young people playing on new equipment at the St. Mary’s play park that had not been placed yet. A number of children were moved on.
At 1515hrs on Friday, 03 March 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of an attempted theft from the West Store. The incident was captured on video but it turned out to be confusion over a purchase.
At 2156hrs on Friday, 03 March 2006 the royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of damage at the Capstan Gift Shop. Officers attended but the incident was dealt with between the FIC and the persons involved.
At 0052hrs on Saturday, 04 April 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of an incoming RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter.
At 2250hrs on Saturday, 04 March 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a vehicle being taken from outside the Narrows Bar. Officers attended and the vehicle was later found on John Street. The Royal Falkland Islands Police would like to remind vehicle owners to lock their vehicles and to remove valuables from them when they are parked. If a valuable has to be left in the vehicle, make sure that it is out of view.
The Royal Falkland Islands Police would like to remind the public that seatbelts should be worn by all times for people under 16 years of age. Adults must wear their seatbelts on roads where the speed limit is over 25MPH.
Though the use of mobile phones whilst driving is not an offence yet in the Falklands, it soon will be. The public are reminded that if they are using mobile phones while driving and have an accident, they can get prosecuted for driving without due care and/or attention.
Repeaters in Camp have been serviced by Mario Zuvic Bulic and are working. Though they are not all completed, they will be serviced in the near future. Port Howard Repeater is working at the moment.
The DARE Project has begun for the 2006 season in the Infant/Junior School. Children will have their next lesson on Thursday. DARE UK’s Senior School Programme is also due to start shortly. Sgt. Roberts also added that DARE has a programme to help promote stronger families as well as Drug and Alcohol Awareness Programmes.
