Falklands : Falkland Islands Detest War Made by Media
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 07.03.2006 (Article Archived on 21.03.2006)

The UK Media are warned: If you start a war in the Falklands then you are responsible for the lives on both sides that have been lost as well as injury and PTSD in the survivors.

FALKLAND ISLANDS DETEST WAR MADE BY MEDIA

By J. Brock (FINN)

People on the ground here in the Falklands are watching with dismay the scenario played out in the UK media about Argentine invasion plans.  Even though we are assured by the FCO and the Argentines themselves, the UK press has gone mad about a supposed military build up and invasion plans.  It seems as though no one wants to listen to us when we say, “It ain’t going to happen.”

As far as we know the JOHN CHEEK is the only Falklands Flagged fishing vessel that has been arrested for alleged poaching this season.  If there is any war, it is economic war – economic terrorism that is being waged.  The trouble is it’s only the Falkland Islanders in the Fishing trade that know this for sure.  Everybody else, to parrot Will Rogers, only know what they read in the papers.

Politicians, who daily criticise the media, have now taken up the war conspiracy theory and despite denials by the Ministry of Defence, are indicating in Parliament that the Argentines are building up their Military capability.

It all makes good copy - and sells newspapers – but it’s fiction and should be bound and sold in book shops under the “Conspiracy Theory.” category.

At the end of the day, if this rhetoric causes a war, the lives of those on both sides will be attributable to the media that started it.  Every ex-soldier with PTSD, lost limbs and marriage breakdowns can point their fingers directly at source.  Widows as well as fatherless and motherless children and orphans can point their fingers at source.  Islanders suffering another bout of stolen lost or damaged property and mental health problems can point their fingers at source.  Wildlife, sheep, cattle and other domesticated animals will not escape if Media start a war.

Once was too much!  No one living, who went through the invasion of 1982, wants it to happen again.
