Falklands : Law Lectures for the Community School
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 13.02.2006 (Article Archived on 27.02.2006)

Mr. Simon Jackson QC will be giving an 8-week course.

LAW LECTURES SLATED FOR THE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

By J. Bock (FINN)

Mr. Simon Jackson QC author of the “Successful Law” text book and an experienced lecturer from the UK will be presenting “An introduction to the Legal World,” a brief course aimed to provide a lively and interesting look at the world of lawyers and the law will be held at the Falkland Islands Community School.

The eight-week course is primarily for general interest but might also be helpful to anyone whose work requires some understanding of legal affairs, or as a taster for those who are thinking about starting a legal qualification of some kind.

No previous knowledge of law is needed.  The course will be offered as a one-hour long evening class and the course covers how laws are made, the workings of the Courts, the nature of the legal profession and an introduction to one particular area of law, either contract or criminal law.

Although the course focuses on UK Law, some mention will also be made of the legal system in the Falklands.  The course is due to start in the first week of March.  The exact date will be notified and will cost £30.00 for eight weeks.

For further info and to register your interest, call the School Secretary on 27147
