Falklands : Police and Court News (01/23/06)

POLICE AND COURT NEWS

Sergeant Dave Roberts of the Royal Falkland Islands Police updates us on recent Police activity.


 


At 2048hrs on Monday, 16 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a missing motorcycle.  It was later found by the owner.


 


At 0533hrs on Wednesday, 18 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of an inbound helicopter.


 


At 1017hrs on Wednesday, 18 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a burning smell on Snake Hill.  The Fire Service attended.


 


At 1105hrs on Thursday, 19 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report that Great Island (beyond North Arm) was on fire.


 


At 0958hrs on Friday, 20 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of tin blowing down Callaghan road during a gale.  The Fire Service attended and secured the tin.


 


At1212hrs on Saturday, 21 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report from Weddell Island that a possible lightening strike has created from 12 to 20 hot spots at the north-west corner of the island.  The Fire Service attended.


 


At 1901hrs on Saturday, 21 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of children playing dangerously on Philomel Street.  Police Officers attended but found nothing.


 


At 2224hrs on Saturday, 21 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a person who had fallen over outside the Globe Tavern.  Police Officers attended and sent one person home in a taxi.


 


At 0035hrs on Sunday, 22 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for assistance on Davis Street.  Officers attended and found that one person was causing a disturbance outside someone’s door.  That person is now helping Police with their enquiries.


 


At 1353hrs on Sunday, 22 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a motorcycle laying on its side 400 yards West of the Mount Kent Turn-off on the Stanley to MPA Road.  The vehicle had been broken down and the owner will recover it.


 


At 0937hrs on Monday, 23 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a mortar on Mr. Longdon.  EOD were tasked to deal with it.


 


At 1040hrs on Monday, 23 January 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received reports of oil leaking into the harbour via the Reservoir Road outlet.  Public Works were tasked to deal with it.


 


COURT NEWS


 


Before Chief Justice James Wood on Monday, 23 January 2006, Quark Fishing Limited and Frieremar SA heard that the sentence handed down by the lower Court for breach of licence conditions was affirmed.  Both Frieremar SA and Quark Fishing Limited were ordered to pay their fines forthwith.  There was a reasonable explanation – a lack of communication – for the non payment of the fines.


 


Costs for the appeal were set at £2,880.25 each but they are still not finalised.
