Val and Gen Harvey have lost their house and contents but they are safe.

HOUSE DESTROYED IN HILL COVE FIRE

By J. Brock (FINN)

A house fire, possibly caused as a result of lightening strikes the previous day has destroyed the home of Val and Gen Harvey.  Sgt. Dave Roberts of the Royal Falkland Islands Police said that a 999 call from Hill cove was received at 1411hrs on Monday, 16 January 2006 but due to adverse weather conditions a fire and rescue team were unable to make the flight to the settlement.  Thanks to the efforts of the Military, who tasked a helicopter and fire crew from MPA and Bob Hancox, who brought up a pump from the camp ofthe West Road Gang a volunteer fire fighting force was organised.  Unfortunately, the efforts of all concerned were not successful and the house burnt to the ground.
