Severe weather in the Falklands has made its mark on the infrastructure.

STORMY WEATHER KNOCKS OUT ROADS AND RADIO

By J. Brock (FINN)

Wind, rain and thunder that struck the Falklands on Sunday Afternoon has knocked out the North Arm to Goose Green Road at Sound Creek, according to Road Engineer, Bob Hancox.  The area is completely impassable and drivers are warned to keep away from the area.  According to the Royal Falkland Islands Police, there will be an assessment of the area in due course.

The storm also knocked out a radio mast on Mt. William that was struck several times on Sunday afternoon.  FIRS on 530 medium wave did not come back on air until around 1000hrs on Monday, 16 January 2006.  While it is up and running, the damaged mast must be repaired and engineer, Mario Zuvic will be assessing the damage when the winds die down later today or tomorrow.
