Falklands : Falklands First: Kathy Biles to Be Ordained
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 16.01.2006 (Article Archived on 30.01.2006)

Kathy Biles, who has been studying for the Anglican Priesthood, has graduated with flying colours and will be ordained on 22 January.

Falklands First at Cathedral

Sunday 22nd January will see a historic event at Christ Church Cathedral, with the first ordination ever to be conducted in the Islands.  Revd. Kathy Biles is to be ordained by The Rt. Revd. Stephen Venner.  Bishop Stephen is the Bishop of Dover, and is here on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams.

Kathy was ordained Deacon in 2004 at St. John’s College, Nottingham, by Dr. Williams.  This occasion will be to ordain Kathy as a Priest in the Anglican Church.

The Rector of the Falkland Islands, Revd. Paul Sweeting, said, ‘We are all looking forward to Kathy’s ordination and the visit of Bishop Stephen.  The service will include contributions from young and old, and I am sure it will be a memorable occasion.’

This will take place at the 10.30 a.m. service.  That evening, at the 6.30 p.m. service, Bishop Stephen will conduct Confirmations.  Bishop Stephen will also have a number of opportunities to meet the community: in Stanley, in Camp and also at MPA.

Press release ends.
