Wool Market Report: Friday 13th June 2003
Wool Markets
In Australia 43 thousand bales were offered. The EMI added three cents on Wednesday and gained nine cents on Thursday. The EMI thus gained 12 cents on the week, closing at 932 A cents. Fifteen percent were passed in. Again European topmakers dominated whilst Asian buyers remained quiet. These summary figures hide the three patterns that emerged: wool finer than 20 microns dropped in value, good wool in the 20 to 26 micron range increased in price, whilst wool coarser than 26 microns fell in price.
South Africa and Britain did not have auctions.
New Zealand only quoted two indices. The Strong Index was up 10 to 435 NZ cents whilst the Lamb Indicator added six to close at 422 NZ cents.
Currencies
The Australian dollar to Sterling exchange rate was more stable than last week, mostly in the range A$2.50/£ to A$2.52/£.
The New Zealand dollar was similar to last week around NZ$2.88/£.

‘There are two more selling weeks of the 2002/2003 season. The big test for Australian prices will come after the three-week break and the new season opens with serious volume of fresh wool available.’ WRWMR
