Falklands : Safe Landing for Antarctic Rower

Colin Yates was the subject of a search and rescue operation last night.

SAFE LANDING FOR ANTARCTIC ROWER

Mr Colin Yeates, who was attempting a single handed circumnavigate the Antarctic in a rowing boat, came ashore on the north east coat of East Falklands at 2053 hours on Tuesday 03 January 2006.


 


 His emergency beacon activated At 0712 hours this morning Wednesday 04 January 2006 and his position was found to be on the north coast of Volunteer Point. 


 


Rescue teams from Johnsons Harbour and the house at Volunteer Point, who had been searching the area during the night, had been on their way to locate and recover him. 


 


He has been spoken to by Satellite telephone and is safe and well having spent the night in his sleeping bag.  He came ashore on Volunteer Point late last night and has now been recovered to the Shanty at Volunteer Point and is safe and well.


 


The Royal Falkland Islands Police would like to thank all those who were involved in this incident for their assistance in bringing it to a successful conclusion.
