Section 1:
Appointment of Tristan da Cunha’s Conservation Officer

Simon Glass was appointed as Conservation Officer in the Natural Resources Department on the 20 September 2005.
The purpose of his job is to conserve the biodiversity of the Tristan Islands through the Tristan Biodiversity Action Plan. The main duties of the job are to develop and manage projects, and assist with existing monitoring programmes for seabird’s habitats and seals.
In conjunction with others within the NR department and overseas develop monitoring programmes for other aspects of the islands biodiversity, including marine life and plants. He will also work with any visiting scientists on projects where specific conservation problems have been identified and help to develop research projects in conjunction with other organisations.
His job will involve informing visitors to Tristan about the wildlife of the Tristan Island group, assist with wildlife tours around the islands. And, he will educate Tristan residents of all ages about the importance of their wildlife heritage.

POLICE NEWS
SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT
The joint investigation, that was being conducted by the Royal Falkland Islands Police and the Joint Services Provost and Security Unit, into a serious sexual assault which was alleged to have occurred in a club at Mount Pleasant Airport on Saturday 03 December 2005, has been discontinued. The female who reported the assault has withdrawn her statement of complaint.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR OPENING HOURS FOR THE LICENSING BUREAU
The Licensing Bureau will be closed from 1600hrs on Friday, 23 December 2005 and will re-open at 0830hrs on Tuesday, 03 January 2006. During the festive season members of the public may visit the Police Station in Stanley to make a payment to the Bureau. The Desk Officer will issue a desk receipt for any payments made but cannot process associated paperwork. Any inconvenience to the public is regretted,
GENERAL POLICE ACTIVITY
At 2240hrs on Friday, 09 December 2005 The Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for an ambulance. The King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) dispatched an ambulance and dealt with the report.
At 2330hrs on Saturday, 10 December 2005 Royal Falkland Islands Police Officers on Patrol issued a Public Order Warning (section 5) to a male observed threatening and pushing people outside the Globe Tavern.
At 2344hrs on Saturday, 10 December 2550 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a person laying injured in the grass outside a pub. Medical assistance was called and then cancelled when the person left the area.
At 1652hrs on Sunday, 11 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a traffic accident on the Stanley side of Fitzroy Ridge. The Joint Services Police Service Unit (JSPSU) are dealing with it.
At 1713hrs on Sunday, 11 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a incident at the Tattoo Centre. The matter is under investigation.
At 1825hrs on Monday, 12 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a road traffic accident on the Stanley to Darwin Road 10 miles from Mount Pleasant Complex. JSPSU are dealing with it.
At 1330hrs on Tuesday, 13 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a road traffic accident that occurred on Villiers Street the at 1020hrs on Sunday, 11 December 2005 between two vehicles. The matter is being dealt with via insurance.
At 1411hrs on Tuesday, 13 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a vehicle on Davis St overtaking several vehicles at speed. One person is helping Police with enquiries.
At 1914hrs on Tuesday, 13 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a fire alarm at the OK Corral Flats. The Fire Service was tasked and discovered it was a false alarm.
At 1820hrs on Wednesday, 14 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of an assault in the area of Gypsy Cove. The matter is currently under investigation.
At 2045hrs on Wednesday, 14 December 2005 the Royal Falkland Islands Police gave a verbal warning to a driver who was driving eratically down Philomel Street.

The Stanley Leisure Center will be having a “Santa’s Grotto” 0n Friday, 23 December 2005 from 1300 to 1600. All ages are welcome but under 5s must be accompanied by an adult. The entrance fee is £5.00 per child. You can book your place by calling the Stanley Leisure Centre on 27291 or you can e-mail krozee.leisure@sec.gov.fk.
Stanley Sports Association will be doing some maintenance on the race course on Saturday, 17 December 2005, starting at 1330 hrs. Any volunteers able to lend a hand for a couple of hours would be greatly appreciated.
Standard Chartered Bank would like to advise all customers that the following arrangements will apply in relation to the Christmas and New Year period: Friday, 23 December 2005, Closing at 1300hrs, Monday, 26 December 2005, Tuesday, 27 December 2005, Wednesday, 28 December 2005, Closed, Thursday, 29 December 2005, usual working hours, Friday, 30 December 2005, closing at 1200hrs, Monday, 02 January 2006, Closed. Normal Business hours will resume on Tuesday, 03 January 2006.
The Leisure Centre Sports Hall will be closed from 1800 this Friday, 16 December 2005 Due to Staff Shortages.

A meeting of Legislative Council will take place on Friday, 16 December 2005 at 1030hrs in the Court and Council Chamber of the Town Hall.
The Stanley Leisure Centre would like to remind customers that the pool will be open to adults on Tuesday between 2000 and 2100. And, on Thursdays the pool will be closed for private hire between 1900 and 2000.
If you have borrowed a cat cage from the Veterinary Service and have not yet returned it, please do so as soon as possible.
A place exists on the Planning and Building Committee for a lay member to serve a term of three years. Meetings are on the 1st Thursday of every month. Would People on repeat medications please check their supplies for the Christmas-new Year period. Any medications needing a top-up between Wednesday, 21 December 2005 and Friday, 06 January 2006, please order between Monday, 05 December and Monday, 19 December 2005 to ensure supply for the Christmas and New Year break.

Dockworker/Night security person is required. Duties include one week on night security duty, followed by two weeks of barge and dock maintenance duties, working under the supervision of the Dock Foreman. A two-year contract of employment is offered attracting a salary of £10,000/annum + holiday entitlement. Commencement date 19th December 2005.
Applications will only be considered from persons who are conscientious workers, of sober habits, trustworthy, and who possess valid driving licences.

The funeral service for the late Marion Purvis will take place in the UK on Wednesday, 21 December 2005. Alan has requested that no flowers should be sent but that donations to Cancer Research would be appreciated. Messages of condolence will be conveyed via Melissa McKinley at the FIGO Office.
