Falklands : Housing Committee (07/12/05)
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 09.12.2005 (Article Archived on 23.12.2005)

The Housing Committee is essential and it is, in part, open to the public.

HOUSING COMMITTEE

By J. Brock (FINN)

A meeting of the Housing Committee took place in the Liberation Room of the Secretariat at 1330hrs on Wednesday, 07 December 2005. Present were Cllr. Davis (Chair), Cllr. Rendell, Dawn Hoy, the Housing Officer, Una Wallace, Kathy Dobbyns and one other from the Treasury.

After the minutes of the meeting held on 02 November 2005 were confirmed, matters arising from those minutes should have been discussed but there were none.  The 2006 meeting schedule was approved with Dawn Hoy suggesting that the next meeting be held a week later due to its nearness to the holiday season.  The next meeting will be held at 1330hrs on 11 January 2005.

A lengthy discussion about the Draft Revised Application form ensued with each page being looked at again.  Changes that were suggested during the last meeting had been incorporated into the draft form and it has been thoroughly vetted through the Legal Department.

There were some cosmetic issues to deal with for the next meeting and it should be finished by the January EXCO when the housing policy review would be discussed.

The grey-scale background was thought to be better looking but might cost in ink and quality if faxed.  It was decided to keep the grey-scale background.

A discussion about how old a person has to be to be allocated Government Housing brought the results that eighteen was the minimum age.  Under 18s would be allocated rooms in the YMCA.  Dawn Hoy said that a younger age limit would only encourage children to leave home all that sooner and it would be a drain on housing resources.
