Falklands : Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 16.11.2005 (Article Archived on 30.11.2005)

FINN knows where a large number of them spend their time.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE?

An Editorial by J. Brock (FINN)

The problem of under age drinking and smoking has been aired in recent public meetings but nothing seems to be done about it.  Added difficulties come from under-age children being out at night with or without their parents’ permission.  Put the two together and the scenario isn’t good.

What is known is that one of the drinking and smoking dens, where anything goes is Pump Green on any night.  Children have been observed there at all hours without adult supervision.  Police on patrol have spoken to them but the problem still persists, with some of the children becoming unruly and causing mess, minor damage to buildings and public property.

If the problem is to be solved, it begins at home with parents knowing where their children are and taking an interest in what they are doing in their spare time.  Bed checks would also help in identifying whether your child is slipping out to be with mates at Pump Green.

A real eye-opener would be for parents to have a look for themselves – unannounced.
