Falklands : Camp Fire Season Begins With Vengeance
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 15.11.2005 (Article Archived on 29.11.2005)

A camp burn that went wrong is the first major fire of the season.

CAMP FIRE SEASON BEGINS WITH  VENGEANCE

By J. Brock (FINN)

The Royal Falkland Islands Police have reported an on-going situation regarding a fire on ground near the Malo River at Riverview Settlement that apparently was caused by a camp burn that went wrong.  Other reports are that a tractor had exploded during the burn.

At the last report at 1330 this afternoon the fire was one mile long by 500 Metres wide and heading towards the settlement and the river.

Fighting the fire are six fire officers and a contingent from the FIDF, who are damping down the hot spots.

All burning permits have now been suspended by the Fire Officer.
