WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 11th November 2005
Auctions
Starting the week at 652 A cents, the Australian Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) lost a cent on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The EMI thus closed the week down three cents at 649A cents, the lowest level since 24 March 2000. Compared to the start of the season the market is 11.7% cheaper in Australian cents.
In New Zealand, the Merino and Mid-micron Indicators were not quoted. The Fine Crossbred Indicator (33-35µ) was quoted down two at 339 NZ cents and the Coarse Crossbred Indicator (35.1+µ) was up three to 328 cents. The Lamb Indicator was not quoted.
In South Africa the Cape Wools Overall Merino Indicator was quoted down 4.9 percent on the week from 2,400 to 2,283 SA cents per kg clean. European buyers were again the most active.
Currencies
Towards the end of the week, the Australian dollar was trading stronger at A$2.38/Ł whilst the New Zealand dollar was trading stronger at 2.54 NZ cents/Ł.
