Ascension : Two Boats School Athletics Carnival 23rd October 2005 Submitted by The Islander (Phil Stevens) 27.10.2005 (Article Archived on 17.11.2005)
Staff, students, parents and friends of Two Boats School braved the grey, misty rain on Sunday morning to attend the annual sports day.

The bad weather did not dampen the spirits of the house teams as they demonstrated their wonderful cheerleading routines. The races began with the seniors running 1 500m whilst the newcomers to the school, the nursery children, competed over 30m. Everyone gave their best effort for their house and the atmosphere was fantastic. The tug of war marked the end of the competition with parents, students and staff cheering and shouting encouragement to the teams. Once again Beale managed to steal the show. That’s victory in two consecutive sports days and a swimming gala now, is there any stopping them?
Thanks to all the students who made the day special with their excellent behaviour and good sportsmanship. Also thank you so much to all the parents and helpers who supported us and especially to those who stepped in at the last minute to lend a hand. Well done to all the mums and dads who joined in with the races. Thanks to Johnny for being the announcer/commentator. Thank you to Suzanne Higgins and to The Administrator for presenting the awards. A huge thank you to everyone who played a part because we could not have done it without you.

Hello from Two Boats School
Half Term
The school is on half term this week. Although we have only been back at school for five weeks because of our later start to the term the school will still complete 190 teaching days during the school year and this is the same total as counterpart schools in the United Kingdom.
During half term the Ascension Explorers met and visited the wideawakes. Leading the visit was be Alison Liddle who has been appointed as Education Officer for a project being run jointly in Ascension and the Falkland Islands. After visiting the wideawakes, Alison took the children back to school and gave them a slide presentation on the wildlife of the Falkland Islands.
Harvest Festival
Last Friday we held our Annual Harvest Festival assembly at school. All areas of the school contributed to the Assembly and afterwards all children and parents shared the food provided for the Harvest table.
As usual very generous donations of items for the Harvest collection for the older citizens in St Helena were made and as a result there will be a very large amount of food sent on the RMS for distribution prior to Christmas. I would like to thank all who contributed anything to the collection of foodstuffs.
