WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 28th October 2005

Auctions

Starting the week at 672 A cents, the Australian Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) lost two cents every auction day on Tuesday, Wednesday and on Thursday.  The EMI thus closed the week down six cents at 666A cents, the lowest level since 24 March 2000.  Of the 58,915 bales offered, 90% were sold. European enquiry was said to be improving.

In New Zealand, the Merino and Mid-micron Indicators were not quoted.  The Fine Crossbred Indicator (33-35µ) was quoted at 338 NZ cents and the Coarse Crossbred Indicator (35.1+µ) was down to 328 cents.  The Lamb Indicator was not quoted. There was a 72% clearance of the 7,837 bale offering.

In South Africa the Cape Wools Overall Merino Indicator was quoted down 1.5 percent on the week from 2,447 to 2,410 SA cents per kg clean.  European buyers were active.

Currencies

Towards the end of the week, the Australian dollar was trading at A$2.35/£ whilst the New Zealand dollar was trading at 2.52 NZ cents/£.

FWG Agency

With the 2005/2006 season gathering additional momentum it is vital that the highest quality control and wool preparation standards are maintained throughout shearing.

Early bale specifications are much appreciated.

I am visiting the Falklands next between 23rd November and 8th December.  I will endeavour to visit as many farms as possible however if anyone would especially like a meeting, please advise soonest.

With Thanks and Regards

Robert
