Falklands : Murrell Valley Management Plan Delayed
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 28.10.2005 (Article Archived on 11.11.2005)

Chris Simpkins explains the reasons behind the delay.

PRESS RELEASE

MURRELL VALLEY MANAGEMENT PLAN DELAYED

Murrell Valley will not be considered by Executive Council until its meeting in November following the General Election.

Murrell Road, was approved for consultation purposes by ExCo in September.  A report on the consultation exercise was to have been submitted to ExCo this month but was withdrawn by the Chief Executive, Chris Simpkins who commented:

“Whilst I am satisfied that the currently proposed route of the road complies with the planning consent, the detailed plans, which show the location of the river crossing some 90 metres north west of Mastins Point and the cutting which is to be constructed, have not previously been published.  They can now be inspected in the Environmental Planning Office.  Executive Council’s requirement that a draft Management Plan should be published before construction of the road commenced has also been complied with but consideration of the final proposed Plan has been deferred to enable more time for a comprehensive report to be prepared and reflect upon the concerns which have been expressed.

Construction of the road will not be delayed.  Tenders for the work are currently being evaluated and there is currently no reason to suppose that work will not commence in the next few weeks and be completed this season.”

Chris Simpkins

Chief Executive
