Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Nathan Prince) 27.09.2002 (Article Archived on 25.10.2002)

It has been conformed that two members f the Department of Agriculture have visited Argentina to meet with farmers and agricultural scientists.

The Director of Agriculture has defended the visit and says it was very beneficial for the two staff that went. Aidan Kerr and Illo Gobious went to Argentina to learn more about their agricultural research, development and extension work underway in Southern Patagonia and also to see whether it would benefit the Agricultural industry in the Islands. Peter Johnstone said that the trip was arranged at his initiative and that he has apologised to the Governor and Councillors for not informing them of his plans or seeking their authority for the visit.
