Tamar sports another protest sign.
The crew of the M/V Tamar FI have shown their displeasure again. They, firstly, are protesting FIG’s quandary over essential shipping services in that FIG did not to award the contract to a local Falkland Islands Company that has many years of experience, but instead encouraged the formation of an opportune company with overseas interests and probably little long-term Falkland Islands interests.
Tamar’s crew members want to know why. They speculate that Councillors will probably say that switching shipping companies is in the best interests of the Falkland Islands by looking after the public purse. Crew-members dispute this and want to know why, excluding personal grievances, FIG are taking such action.
"If the interests of the Falkland Islands are so close to their hearts, where did they have their heads buried," asked Tamar’s skipper, John Thain. He went on to guess that it may be with the establishment of the Abattoir. He continued, "The real cost of transporting sheep alone from some West Falklands Ports to Newhaven is in excess of £15.00 per head." He went on to wonder at what cost and cover up will the frozen meat now be exported. "By Saint Brandon to Uruguay, perhaps," he quipped.
Skipper, John Thain doesn’t hold out much hope for an accurate answer from Government. "I am sure they will have some smart or HARTE answer," he concluded.
FINN Doesn’t either object or concur with Skipper Thain’s remarks.
