The annual World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) walk for Wildlife took place pm Sunday, 09 October 2005 beginning at Victory Green at 1000 hrs. This year’s walk benefited Orang-Utans.
According to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, 91% of the world’s population of Orang-Utans that are indigenous to the Pacific and Indian Ocean Islands in Malaya, Indonesia and New Guinea has been lost over the past 100 years. Many Orang-Utans lost their lives during land clearance fires set in Indonesia and Malaya late last century and during this century. Only 2% of the Orang-Utans’ habitat is left protected.
The walk ended at Gypsy Cove. More later when the money raised is known
